SUITABILITY: Year 6–12 Music, Society & Environment
THEMES: Chamber music, string instruments, composition, Russian culture and history

Formed in 1945, the Borodin Quartet is one of the great ensembles of our time and a living link to the legacy of the past century. Their core repertoire has remained consistent throughout various incarnations, the Quartet's unique identity closely linked with the 'Russian school' of string playing, with all members having studied at the prestigious Moscow Conservatoire.

The Borodin Quartet is internationally revered for its authority in Shostakovich, with the first formation working with the composer on every one of his quartets. The ensemble's masterful proficiency, based on this intimately gained insight, is as evident today as ever in their history.
