In German with subtitles

Having fled East Berlin with her family for a better life in the West, Irene Striesow longs to return home. Constantly afraid of WWIII and a Russian invasion, and unable to let go of the past, she doesn't share her husband's optimism that peaceful times have arrived.

Though only nine and ten, daughters Wasa and Ute decide to improve life for their parents, orchestrating moments designed to rekindle lost love and going to great lengths to keep their mother from doing anything drastic. Told through the girls' eyes, this touching and humorous film presents a very different take on post-war life in West Germany.
