Drawing on influences from the Mexican-US border region, Calexico combine rock, Southwestern jazz, country, mariachi, Tejano and more to produce a distinctly American sound overflowing with Latin spirit.

Never a band to stand still, they continue to expand their musical horizons, filling up empty sun-bleached landscapes with ambitiously large sounds. Their latest LP Carried to Dust has met with strong reviews for its sweeping ballads, ghostly guitar hooks and swells of spaghetti Western-style horns.

Day of the Dead

Day of the Dead are a three-piece instrumental outfit fusing the spooky tremolo guitar of 60s spy films with modern rock fury. Described as ‘revenge of the surf guitar', the Dead move from spooky desert instrumentals to hotrod guitar and double-bass mayhem.

Seeing the band live is like watching Technicolor for the first time. POPMATTERS  MORE >
