BALLET AT THE QUARRY

WEST AUSTRALIAN BALLET

SUITABILITY: Year 8–12 Dance, Music, Drama
THEMES: Pagan rituals, 1913 Russia, Kandinsky, Rachmaninov, Stravinsky

Stravinsky's thrilling The Rite of Spring headlines West Australian Ballet's annual season of ballet under the stars – an unforgettable summer calendar event.

Petr Zuska, whose Bolero and Maria's Dream captivated audiences in Quarry 2008, returns by popular demand to create a new The Rite of Spring for West Australian Ballet. Stravinsky's extraordinary music shocked audiences when it premiered in 1913 and still today it remains one of the most challenging and demanding works in the ballet repertoire – a guaranteed showstopper.

Also featuring in this unmissable program are: Uwe Scholz' striking Suite No.2 (on Rachmaninov); Dolly, a contemplation of mortality from Artistic Director Ivan Cavallari; and house choreographer Timothy O'Donnell's quirky 'love triangle' ballet The Games We Play. Bring your friends and a picnic!
