AMAL

Director: Richie Mehta • 101min • M
In Hindi and English with subtitles

New Delhi-based Amal Kumar is an honest and compassionate auto rickshaw driver who dutifully lives with and supports his widowed mother. Although unaffected by worldly matters, Amal's humility and sense of duty are tested when he encounters a belligerent, ageing billionaire who tries unfairly to negotiate a lower fare. This brief encounter will become life-altering for both men.

Part Bollywood melodrama and part Hindu fable, Amal is a celebration of joy in the face of hardship and poverty. A tale about class, wealth and family, it was inspired by real-life experiences of the director's brother.
