WUNDERSCHÖN

FEATURING MEOW MEOW

PERTH INTERNATIONAL ARTS FESTIVAL IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL ACADEMY OF MUSIC PRESENTS

Im wunderschönen Monat Mai, the opening song from Schumann's Dichterliebe, provides the inspiration for this extraordinary work by Reinbert de Leeuw. Arrangements of 21 songs by Schumann and Schubert – some delivered with a whisper, some with a sob, some purred, some screamed, others sublimely beautiful – are theatrically arranged into a dramatic, lyrical arc.

Moving from sweet and innocent love to disillusionment and despair and finally to world-weary sophistication, Wunderschön lays bare the grief, sentimentality and longing that Schubert and Schumann drew from the poetry of Goethe, Heinrich Heine, Wilhelm Müller and others more than 150 years ago.

Don't miss internationally adored post-post modern cabaret sensation Meow Meow on this revealing emotional journey.
