THE NORTH FACE

NORDWAND

AUSTRALIAN PREMIER

Director: Philipp Stölzl · 126min · M
In German, Swiss German, French and Italian with subtitles

Towering above the Swiss ski resort of Grindelwald, the Eiger is one of the most treacherous of all Alpine peaks. In 1936 Nazi propaganda is rife and the ethos of Aryan physical attainment becomes a cultural mission-statement leading up to the 1936 Berlin Olympics. The nation's youth are urged to mount a challenge on the near-vertical unclimbed route of the Eiger. Toni Kurz (Benno Fürmann) and Andi Hinterstoisser (Florian Lukas) accept the challenge and the conditions endured by the pair simply defy belief.

The North Face is more than just a marvellous filmmaking spectacle with its outstanding period detail and dramatic landscapes. Based on a true story, this action-packed, compelling and extremely well-crafted film takes the viewer along every thrilling and breathtaking step of the way.
